This half term we have been learning:
The children have asked some very insightful questions and we have done lots of acting out to distinguish between what is ‘mean’, ‘rude’ or ‘bullying’. Take a look at some of the scenarios we have spoken about in class and have a discussion at home to decide whether you think it is mean, rude or bullying. Remember to explain your reasons why! In Design and Technology, we have spent the last few weeks looking at different types of frames and experimenting with how to make paper strong and stable. We have all now made a prototype and designed our final frame. Today we started making our photo frames. We can't wait to see the finished product!
Today we had a visit from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. We had a great lesson with them and learnt lots of new and interesting things about how to keep ourselves safe and about the role of the firefighters. We have all been set the challenge to make sure we know our full address and post code, just in case we ever need to phone 999 in an emergency!
![]() We are exceptionally proud of the children in Guided Reading. We are now reading chapter books and answering lots of different types of questions that have certainly tested our brains. We are currently reading the story Mr Skip. Mr Skip is a fantasy story about a girl called Jackie. Jackie and her mum live on an estate surrounded by tower blocks, but Jackie dreams of a better life in the countryside. Although Jackie looks after Gran's tatty old donkey, Barnaby, she longs to have her own horse like the local boys. When she finds an old broken gnome in a skip, and lovingly restores him as a birthday present for her mum, her fortunes start to change. Naming the gnome Mr. Skip, Jackie confides her fears, hopes and dreams to him - and is stunned when one day he replies! We are currently on Chapter 3 of the story but will soon find out that Mr. Skip has a way of making things happen that can transform Jackie's life! We cant't wait to see what happens next! This term we have been looking at country music and the song “Where the heart is.” We have been progressing towards playing the glockenspiel using the mallets. So far we have practised playing the notes GEFG, by the end of this term we are aiming to be able to play the notes to the rhythm of the music.
Today, we started our new RE unit “The Nativity Story”. We learnt today that an angel called Gabriel appeared before Mary. Angel Gabriel told Mary that she had been chosen to have a special baby. The angel explained to her that the baby would be God’s son, and that she should call the baby Jesus. We worked in groups of 3 and 4 to write our own scripts retelling this part of the Nativity story. The children then acted out their plays to the class, we certainly have some aspiring actor and actresses in Year 3! Take a look at our play scripts below.
