This week for our rock science topic,  we have been looking at how metamorphic rocks are formed. We first discussed that metamorphic rocks were once sedimentary or igneous rock that has been heated and compressed over thousands of years. To help understand the process of metamorphism, we squeezed different coloured starbursts together to represent the sediment layers in a sedimentary rock. We then heated the mixture for 10 seconds in the microwave to make the sweets soften but not melt. We then used a rolling pin to compress the 'rock' so it could morph into a new rock. Once this was cooled, you could feel the mixture become more dense which is what would happen to the metamorphic rock. Have a look below at us trying to replicate the process of metamorphism. 

In writing, we have been looking at writing instructions. For this, we had made Stone Age stewed fruit beforehand so we all knew how to make it. This recipe links with our current history topic The Stone Age because people that lived during the the Stone Age were hunter gatherers so all the ingredients in the recipe would have been ingredients that they would have gathered themselves.
