Today, we have visited Weston Park Museum in Sheffield to learn more about Ancient Egypt. We first looked at the Bronze Age to see how they lived. We then linked this with Ancient Egypt as this happened during the same time period so it made it easier for us to compare topics. When looking at Ancient Egypt, we looked at different artefacts from the time and we even saw two sarcophaguses with mummies inside. We then tried to use evidence from the artefacts to look at how they lived. Later on, we looked more closely at the mummification process and tried to make our own Ancient Egypt artefacts to take home. The children have really enjoyed the day out to Weston Park and have learnt loads about Ancient Egypt. Have a look below to see what they got up to. Last week, we had another visitor from the local church talking to us about the local historic missionary called James Hudson Taylor. He explained his story and why he was significant to Barnsley.
Yesterday, the Y1s, 3s and 5s took part in a den building challenge. For this, the children were put in mixed aged groups and they had to work together to make the best den. When they all had finished, their dens were put up to the ultimate test by seeing if they were waterproof. All the children had a great time doing this especially when they got soaked by the buckets of water. Have a look below to see the pictures. In maths last week, we started looking at making amounts of money in different ways. For this, the children could only use a certain amount of coins / notes to make the amount of money. The children had to think carefully about which way they could do it. Have a look below to look at the pictures from the lesson. |
