PHSE CURRICULUM

RSE (Relationship and Sex Education)
Relationship and Sex Education is currently introduced to Y5 and taught in more detail during Year 6.  Written permission from parents will be required in order for children to participate. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from sex education lessons with the exception of those elements which are part of the science National Curriculum but are asked to contact the Headteachers to discuss this in the first instance.
To support the teaching of RSE in Year 5 and Year 6 we use the Channel 4 Living and Growing resources. These resources cover four main themes / sessions. The first two are delivered in Year 5 with the second two being delivered in Year 6.

Is the RSE curriculum not compulsory?
The requirement for all schools, including academies, to teach relationships education, and for all secondary schools to teach sex education, will be mandatory from September 2020.
In preparation for this we are currently consulting parents and carers on their views regarding relationship and sex education. This consultation closes on Monday 15th July 2019. Results will be collated and published on the school website and will feed into policy review and development.
The consultation questionnaire can be found in the document list below.

PHSCE Curriculum
Our PHSCE curriculum is being reviewed ready for implementation in September 2019.
Tuesday 2nd July 2019 – Den Building
All children took part in a den building experience today which involved them displaying not only design and construction abilities but also many personal qualities including teamwork, listening, patience, support and decision making. The children were placed in mixed age groups which was hugely successful in building relationships.
