RE CURRICULUM
Curriculum Intent
At Kexborough Primary school, we believe that it is vital for all our pupils to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. Through Religious Education, children develop their knowledge of the world faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. Our Religious Education curriculum is enhanced further with whole school visits to places of worship in our local area.
RE: STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS AND CURRICULUM INFORMATION
The national curriculum states the legal requirement that:
‘Every state-funded school must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based, and which:
Although there is not a National Curriculum for RE, all maintained schools must follow the National Curriculum requirements to teach a broad and balanced curriculum, which includes RE. All maintained schools therefore have a statutory duty to teach RE. Academies and free schools are contractually required through the terms of their funding agreement to make provision for the teaching of RE.

From September 2019 we will be following a new RE curriculum which will allow children to develop knowledge and understanding of a variety of world religions as well as investigating moral and cultural aspects of life around the world.
The six key questions that form part of the Locally agreed syllabus will thread through the coverage.
Question 1 Why are these words special?
Question 2 Why are some places special?
Question 3 How can faith contribute to Community Cohesion?
Question 4 Why are some times special?
Question 5 What can be learned from the lives of significant people of faith?
Question 6 How do I and others feel about life and the universe around us?
The coverage overview has been planned as set out below.
