We have a lot of children in year 3 who have achieved out attendance target this half term. Well done everyone. Keep it up!
Today, we visited The Royal Spice as part of our Food, Glorious Food Topic where we learnt about the ingredients used in Asian cookery.
Our day started with an interactive session where we looked and touched different ingredients and spices. We learnt that almost all spices were sourced from plants. We examined what they were (roots, leaves, seeds etc) and how they are processed for us to be able to eat. We were then showed how to make onion pakora using the different spices and a pestle and mortar. We then had the chance to do this for ourselves. Afterwards, we took it in turns to go into the kitchen where we cooked the pakora we had made, the chefs also demonstrated how to cook two different curries and naan bread. The chefs chose three volunteers to replicate the making of the naan and we cooked the dough in the tandoor. We learnt how the spices were used to make these dishes. We also took part in a small quiz where we had some spices on plates. We had to identify what they are using pictures from a reference book. The best part of almost everyone’s day was tasting the curries, naan bread and pilau rice that we had cooked. There were lots of empty plates and children having second helpings of food! The chef even had to cook us some more food! Today we have celebrated World Book Day. In Year 3, we have spent the day looking at Zog and the Flying Doctors. We have been re-writing the story, inventing new characters and drawing our favourite scenes, all while dressed as some of our favourite book characters!
