Reading allows us to be transported from our own world to another. As we read, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn new words and phrases. Whilst reading, we learn about different cultures and experience a range of emotions as well as acquiring new skills and knowledge. In year 5 we have had lots of discussions about the importance of reading at school and at home. We have set the children a challenge to read at least 5 times a week at home and will be sending home a reading card this week for the children to complete.
We have started our reading off in class with the book Danny The Champion of the World. To begin our guided reading lessons we made a prediction about what we thought the story would be about; we then used the blurb to back up our predictions. The children are really enjoying this story so far and have also been completing lots of writing about the story during our English lessons. Comments are closed.
