Thermal Insulators!

21/9/2023

As part of out science unit this half term, we have been learning about what a thermal insulator and thermal conductor is.  Today we carried out an experiment to see which material would been the temperature of ice cubes constant and would be best for using inside a lunchbox.

Reading, Reading, Reading!

19/9/2023

Reading allows us to be transported from our own world to another. As we read, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn new words and phrases. Whilst reading, we learn about different cultures and experience a range of emotions as well as acquiring new skills and knowledge. In year 5 we have had lots of discussions about the importance of reading at school and at home. We have set the children a challenge to read at least 5 times a week at home and will be sending  home a reading card this week for the children to complete.

We have started our reading off in class with the book Danny The Champion of the World. To begin our guided reading lessons we made a prediction about what we thought the story would be about; we then used the blurb to back up our predictions. The children are really enjoying this story so far and have also been completing lots of writing about the story during our English lessons.

Art - Seascapes

8/9/2023

Today in our Art lesson, we have started our Viking seascape unit.  We have been trying out different techniques to create waves using sponge printing, wet/dry brushing and splatter painting.  We really enjoyed our experimenting and we are looking forward to creating out final masterpieces.

Welcome to Year 5!

5/9/2023

A big hello and sunny welcome back to all the children in Year 5! It was lovely to see lots of happy, smiley faces greeting me on the playground this morning. The children have really impressed me with their work today, particularly during our Maths lesson and taking such an interest in our new topic 'Anglo-Saxons and Vikings'.

Some additional information that has also been shared with the children today:
Our PE days are Monday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor). For outdoor PE children are expected to bring trainers to school and during the colder months ensure they have jogging bottoms and a jacket.

Our Library day is Tuesday – we will visit the library to choose a book to read.
