On Tuesday, Year 5 went on a school trip to experience life as a Viking Settler. As always, this practical and immersive experience allowed children to fully grasp how it would have been to live in the era of the Vikings. They spent the day living as settlers and had to learn how to defend their land as warriors, collect and grow crops as farmers, how to make their own bread, entertain themselves with Viking board games and even had a go at making their own oil lamps in the pottery shed. We had a fantastic day and the children in Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed living as Viking settlers for the day. In French the children have been learning vocabulary related to breakfast foods and drinks. In order to put all of that learning into practice, we had breakfast today. The children had to come and greet Miss Mackay, respond to a question, order their food and drink and also use please and thank you at the appropriate times. The children were excellent at completing this practical assessment of their knowledge of French vocabulary and were rewarded with the food and drink that they ordered (there may have been enough for seconds too).
