We have been in school a week now and we are already establishing good routines and learning what it is to be a good Bear Cub. We have continued to enjoy learning from our story, Owl Babies and this week we have been learning about different types of owls and what makes an owl an owl! We have learnt out to mix red and black to make brown so we can paint owls and add features for more detail and texture. Of course we wash up our equipment after we have finished. We have enjoyed our first kidnectics lesson with Coach Boots - we learn physical skills, such as balancing and jogging whilst we have fun! I hope your children have been telling you about our phonics lessons too. Every day we learn to recognise, say and write a sound. We follow a phonics programme called Read Write Inc so watch this space for their progress and see us become readers and writers! Developing good writing skills are a key part of school and when children are young it is important they develop strong hands and fingers so they can grasp pencils and make firm marks. Activities, such as threading, jigsaws and handling tools, such as tweezers help children strengthen their muscles and develop hand-eye coordination.
