We have been talking about going on holiday, particularly going to the seaside. We have been discussing different kinds of places where people can stay on holiday, such as, hotel, tent, caravan, villa, cottage, chalet. See if you can spot some of these in the photos. We have also been talking about ways to keep safe in the sun - all we need now is some hot weather!
Take a look at our outdoor play too - plenty of teamwork! This week we have been reading a story called 'Anna Hibiscus' - about a girl who lives in Africa by the sea. She wants to splash in the waves but her friends and family are busy doing other things...
We have been talking about the place where Anna lives by looking at the illustrations and we have learnt what a jetty, shack, palm tree and parasol is. We have been comparing this to our own experiences of being at the seaside. Also, can you spot how some children have been keeping cool outside??? We have been reading a story called The Incredible Hotel. It is about a kitchen porter called Stefan who wants be a chef. The chef at the hotel laughs at him but in the end Stefan saves the day when an important visitor comes to the hotel and Stefan impresses with his profiterole tower! He is then promoted to chef!!
We have had lots of discussions about different jobs that people can do, particularly jobs in hotels. We have looked at different types of food chefs might cook and we have learnt what a menu is and written our own. We have also talked about bridges because in the story Stefan crosses the Bridge of Spires every day to get to the hotel. We haven't been able to whip up a souffle in class but we have chopped fruit to make our own fruit salad. See if you can spot what children have been doing connected to our story. |
