In maths, Year 6 are learning about area and perimeter. To begin this topic, we have recapped on previous learning from years 4 and 5 and have investigated several questions within this topic using coloured tiles as manipulatives. The children had to create shapes, using tiles, to match a given area. They then had to find the perimeter of the shape and vice versa. Developing on this, the children were set a series of challenges such as: Can you create a a shape that has a larger area than perimeter? Can you make a shape that has the same area as its perimeter? etc
The Year 6 children have started a new topic in computing this week: physical computing.
Physical computing involves programming digital devices to sense and interact with the world. It has provided the children so far with the opportunity to use programming skills using Crumble Controller. The Crumble Controller is a programmable device which the children have used and programmed to connect LEDs (Sparkles) to set and control lights. Year 6 had an absolutely amazing World Book Day! All the children made such an effort with their costumes and certainly made the most of the opportunity to come dressed as a book character. We based our learning for the day around our most recent class novel - Holes.
