Today, we have completed our sports day. Each class across FS2 and key stage one completed three different races. A sprint, a class race and a relay. Once all the races had been completed, the scores had been counted up and the winning team was the blues. Well done to all the children that took part, you should be really proud of yourselves!

This afternoon, we also finished our seaside/lighthouse inspired collage artwork that we started before the holidays. The children have worked really hard to create this piece of work and I have to say they all look amazing. Have a look below to have a look at their work. Today, the children completed their final performance to Hush Little Baby. The children were encouraged to use the instruments and move to the pulse of the music. Have a look below to see how they got on. Today, year 1 visited Wigfield Farm to learn more about animals. During our visit, the children had the opportunity to go around the farm and feed some of the animals. We saw some animals such as farm animals, llamas, geese, guinea pigs, meerkats and a range of birds. In the afternoon, the children went into the reptile room where they had the opportunity to hold a snake. The children have really enjoyed our visit and the children were fantastic the whole day. Have a look below to see some pictures of our visit. This week in maths, we are going to be looking at capacity. For today's lesson, we looked at a range of bottles and decided whether they were full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty. We then ordered the bottles from empty to full and explained why for each of them. Finally in groups, we went around the classroom and labelled the bottles using the focus key words. I would like to thank everyone who donated the bottles as it made sure the children were able to have a fun lesson today. Have a look below to see what happened.
Today, we have celebrated World Book Day. To mark the occasion, all the children have dressed up as their favourite book character and we have completed story related activities in class. The books we have focussed on today were Stickman and Not a Stick. For this, we read both books and discussed the links between each book. Then, the children wrote about the different things that they could do with a stick. In the afternoon, we drew pictures of Stickman and made superhero stick characters. Have a look below at all the costumes and drawings. Today has been number day, to mark the occasion the children completed a carousel of maths activities. The activities were:
The children were all very focused throughout and they were excited to try all the activities. Afterwards, we played a couple of games of bingo which the children enjoyed. Overall, today has been extremely enjoyable, Well done year 1! Today in gymnastics, we have been looking at performing different shapes. The shapes we have been looking at are dish, front supported arch, straddle, pencil, straight and star. Have a look below to see the children performing the different shapes. In art this half term, we have been looking at painting. Today's lesson, we looked at using appropriate brushes to paint different parts of a picture. To show this, the children had to paint different circles that were a range of sizes. To complete the task, the children had to use the correct brush size in order to paint each circle carefully so they didn't go beyond the lines. We discussed thicker brushes would be better for larger parts and thinner brushes would be better for edges and smaller parts of the picture. The children were really good at this and they all tried their best to choose the correct brush to make sure their painting was nice and neat. Have a look below to see them at work. Last week, we begun looking at odd and even numbers. We first looked at what made an odd and even number and then using numicon we split the numbers into odd and even numbers. Whilst doing this, we recognised the differences between odd and even numbers and that there is a pattern of odd, even, odd then even when sorting numbers into the right group. We also looked at numbers beyond ten and realised that if 2 was an even number, 12 would be too. This helped us to identify whether larger numbers were odd or even. Have a look below to see our sorting.
