We have been reading the story Dinosaurs in the Supermarket, a book we have very much enjoyed. We've also used it as motivation for our writing lessons where we've been learning to add the suffix -ing on to words.
To finish off our week of writing we re-wrote the story in our own words, look at some of our incredible writing!

This week we have learnt about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. We learnt that it is all about paying our respects to soldiers who have fought to keep us safe. We also learnt about where all the money goes that we spend on poppies.
On Friday we took part in a special assembly, we listened to a poem and held a two minute silence. In the afternoon we all made our own poppies. Our art unit of work this half term has been on printing. We have spent weeks practicing different techniques using different resources carefully, and evaluating them. Today was time to complete our final art piece, we used sponges to print the wood effect for the tree trunk and branches. Then we used real leaves and deferent autumn colours to finish it off.
They turned out amazing! This week our writing has been focused on a little alien called Beegu. We have been practicing all week using adjectives to describe Beegu's appearance so that we can make a lost poster to help her get back home!
Today after all our panning it was time to make our posters. We all carefully wrote out sentences to describe Beegus appearance in our neatest handwriting. We then carefully drew a picture of her. The last few weeks, all children in KS1 have been practising summer songs during singing assemblies. We have really enjoyed learning these songs so we thought it would be a good idea to show you. Have a look below at our summer song performance, we hope you enjoy! This afternoon, we finally finished our sewing work. I have been amazed at the independence and resilience the children have shown in order to master running stitch. Have a look below to see their work. Last week, we started to learn how to sew by practising running stitch. The last two lessons have consisted of learning how to thread a needle with some wool and then using needle to weave the wool through some rug hooking canvas. To say some children had never sewed before, I was really impressed with how quickly they picked it up. Now we have practised running stitch, the children will begin to create a piece of work in the coming lessons. Have a look of the work the children have produced so far. This morning, the Y1s, Y2s and the Y5s have completed a den building activity that focused on teamwork, resilience and communication. Their aim was to make the most stable and waterproof den as a group. All the children worked very well together and never gave up even when they were finding it challenging. At the end, each den was tested to see how waterproof they were by throwing water over them whilst each team was inside. All the children were brilliant this morning and they really enjoyed themselves. Have a look below to see the children in action. This half term, we have been looking at creating moving pictures using different mechanisms. We first looked at a slider and lever mechanism using pictures from different fairytale stories to help us. For our final piece of work, we designed, drew and created our own moving picture based on the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I have to say now they are all completed, I am really impressed with all the moving pictures the children have made. Have a look below to have a look at some of our moving pictures. |
