This term, year 2 have learnt lots about plants! They have also used some fundraising money raised from the Easter Raffle to do lots of planting this term, so THANK YOU. This term they have planted sunflowers, beans and narcissus bulbs. They took their bean plants home to look after but we have been monitoring the sunflowers and bulbs in school and WOW! They have grown so much. Every day the children are looking forward to watering and caring for their plants and we have measured the plants every week to monitor their progress. However it has been a good lesson for the children to see that some seeds have grown slower than others and that despite caring for the plants in the same way, every plant is different.
We have been so impressed with how much the children have enjoyed this Science unit and some have even been inspired to plant more at home which is brilliant. Here are some photos of the plants we are growing in school, they are growing so tall! This afternoon Mr Bower came into year 2 as a visitor from Darton Church. He spoke to year 2 about the platinum jubilee.
Firstly, the children told Mr Bower how they had celebrated and many children mentioned street parties. Then the children had fun playing 'the Queen says' game where they had to listen carefully to instructions. Next, the children discussed what was important for a leader to be and how the Queen led the country. Then Mr Bower read the book 'the Queen who chose to serve' and year 2 learned lots about the Queen. Next the class learned that the Queen is a strong Christian and has spoken about her faith guiding her and showing her the right thing to do. Mr Bower then talked to the children about examples where the Queen had trusted in God when choosing what she should do. Finally the children learned about how Jesus was a leader and how he looked after his people. All the children found this workshop really interesting. Thank you to Mr Bower for coming in to work with us! |
