Today year 2 went to the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds where we had a fantastic time and learnt a lot! When we arrived, we had a walk around the museum and visited 'Disease Street' where we saw the horrible conditions the Victorians had to live in. We even visited a Victorian operating theatre and discussed how different it was to a modern day hospital. All the children agreed they would much rather live in modern times where people know to keep clean and stop germs spreading. Then we investigated the rest of the museum where we saw some very interesting medical supplies from the decades. During the afternoon, year 2 took part in 'the Florence Nightingale experience' where we we were led by our very own Florence. She started by telling us her story and why she decided to be a nurse. Then as a group of porters (the boys) and nurses (the girls) worked together to clean up Scutari hospital. First they scrubbed the floors and walls, then made a warm cosy bed and finally they cared for a soldier and helped him recover with hot food, clean bandages and medicine. All the children agreed they had thoroughly enjoyed the day and were engaged throughout. Their behaviour was EXCEPTIONAL. They were focussed, respectful of others throughout and made us all very proud to take them. Well done year 2! Hello and welcome to the new year 2 blog. We hope you will enjoy our regular posts and updates that show what we have been learning and doing here at KPS!
