Last week, to mark National Poetry Day each class had to perform a poem with a theme of environment for our whole school assembly. To link with our topic, we decided to perform an autumn themed poem called The Nut Tree by Julia Donaldson. The children worked so hard to make sure they were ready for the performance and they did such a fantastic job. Here is a copy of the poem and the audio link so you can have a listen to the performance below. Nut Tree
by Julia Donaldson Small, brown, hard, round, The nut is lying underground. Now a shoot begins to show. Now the shoot begins to grow. Tall, taller, tall as can be, The shoot is growing into a tree. And branches grow, and stretch and spread With twigs and leaves above your head. And on a windy autumn day The nut tree bends, the branches sway, The leaves fly off and whirl around, And nuts go tumbling to the ground: Small, brown, hard, round.
