Year 4, 5 and 6 had a fantastic time last night at our Halloween fun night. We played games, had 'dress the best mummy' competition, skeleton picture contests, lots of snacks, music and much more! It was fantastic seeing all the children in their best Halloween outfits - even the really scary ones!
Today, we concluded our experiment about melting. We thought of 6 different objects and then placed them all in individual red bowls. We waited to see if they melted at room temperature. We predicted that the ice pop, ice cube and chocolate would melt at room temperature but the pencil, rubber and paper clip would not. We were mostly right but realised that chocolate did not melt at room temperate (which was 19 degrees Celsius in our classroom). Today, we looked at what the hoplite armour would look like in Ancient Greece. We had a fun lesson looking at the different parts of the armour and what they were called. We learnt new vocabulary such as: curiass, tunic and spear. Next week, we are going to write a report looking at how the bronze age has affected the weapons in the Ancient Roman armies. As you can see, our wonderful volunteer enjoyed today's lesson!
We have been struggling with the concept of negative numbers recently so we decided to get practical and create our own number line. This really helped us to understand what negative numbers are. Initially, we were struggling knowing which number was greater out of -4 and -2 but after completing this, we are much more confident. We still need to complete more work on calculations such as 2 - 5 but we will be adding these to our daily 10 a days.
Yesterday, we took part in a PE lesson about multi-skills. At KPS, we like to start the year working on the core principals of agility, balance and coordination to ensure that we have the fundamental skills in order to complete a range of sports. We looked specifically at coordination and we started with a fun bowling game. Children got into pairs and they had to roll a ball to knock over a cone that was 5 metres away. If they were able to achieve this, they moved the cone back one more metre. It was great to see the children being so competitive and wanting to be the best that they could be. There would have been more photographs but the IPad stopped working for some reason. Hopefully, this will be fixed in time for our next PE lesson. |
