Today, Year 4 have started their first independent write. We have completed a lot of modeled writing over the year but today the children have been let loose (within reason) to write the ending to the book, "The Pirate Cruncher!" They have been given some plain paper to complete their own planning and have even created their own monster and crew of pirates. I can't wait to see what these look like. The audience of this task is Year 3 and we are going to choose a selection to read to them. Our purpose of the task is to entertain so let's hope Year 4 are up to the task!

Thank you for all of the donations that you have given today. The children really enjoyed today and they all looked fantastic!
Today, we continued our work looking at tag rugby. We were looking specifically at running with a ball, scoring a try and passing. We then looked at dodging in a 1 vs 1 situation. Unfortunately, the iPad ran out of battery at that point. The children are really enjoying tag rugby at the minute and it is becoming one of their favourite sports.
Yesterday, our children took part in a dodgeball competition. The aim was to engage and inspire children to take part in school sports competition. The children were amazing! The smiles on the faces whilst playing were a joy to see. Some of these children do not normally go to sporting competitions so it was great to see them giving 100%. Well done to all involved! We will find out on Friday were we finished in the league. The winning isn't everything though as the smiles on the children's faces made me feel like a winner already!
Well done to all of our boys and girls that attended basketball today! They were an absolute credit to the school. We were able to take part in some skills activities first which was really beneficial. We then took part in a competition and thankfully our blue team won the entire event. This means that we have progressed to the Barnsley final! We can't wait! We have a lot to work on and can't wait to get started!
We have finished our masterpieces in DT! It has taken a while and it has caused some mess but we are proud of what we have produced. We have used our skills of papier-mâché and also our knowledge of Ancient Greek vases. We have learnt a lot. Next year, we will ensure that we complete more practice on painting with smaller brushes to ensure that our patterns are to the highest possible standard.
Today, we looked at the different functions of our teeth. We looked at the jobs of incisors, canines and molars. We figured out that we use our molars for chewing as we did an eating experiment where we used different teeth for chewing. We even used no teeth and we found that very difficult.
Today, we completed our second layer of papier-mâché. We are making the body of our vases. We had to ensure that we kept them as smooth as possible and make sure that they were not too wet. Most of the children really enjoyed the sticky fingers that they received and can't wait until next week when we are going to add the neck and the base. We will keep you updated with photographs as the weeks go on.
Today, we had an assembly presented by Barnsley Hockey Club who play out of Darton College. They have completed many free after school clubs for us at KPS and we are incredibly thankful for everything that they do. During the assembly, they dressed up a willing volunteer in the equipment that a hockey goalkeeper would wear in a really match. I hope you agree with me when I say that we all think she looks fantastic! Could we have another Maddie Hinch in the making.
Year 4, 5 and 6 had a fantastic time last night at our Halloween fun night. We played games, had 'dress the best mummy' competition, skeleton picture contests, lots of snacks, music and much more! It was fantastic seeing all the children in their best Halloween outfits - even the really scary ones!
