Welcome to Year 5

We are very excited to welcome everyone into Year 5 and can’t wait to get started with our learning this year.

PE Days
Our PE lessons will take place every Monday and Friday. Please make sure children have trainers on both days, as well as suitable outdoor PE kit. This will give us the flexibility to switch between indoor and outdoor lessons depending on the weather.

Homework
Homework will be sent home every Wednesday and should be returned by the following Monday. Each week’s homework will link to the learning we are doing in class to help consolidate understanding.

Our Learning This Term

• Topic: Anglo-Saxons and Vikings – we’ll be exploring how they lived, invaded and settled in Britain.
• Science: Properties and Changes of Materials – investigating how different materials behave and why.
• Class Novel: Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl – we’ll be linking our reading and writing to this exciting story.
• Maths: Our first unit will focus on decimal fractions.
