This half term, our focus text is Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl and Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying every chapter so far! In our writing lessons, we’ve been exploring lots of descriptive writing. We began by imagining the character of the BFG, who features in the bedtime stories told by Danny’s father, and used adventurous vocabulary to bring him to life. More recently, we’ve turned our attention to describing Danny’s dad’s workshop. The children have worked hard to include ambitious adjectives, making sure to use commas between them and have tried hard to use different sentence openers to make their writing even more engaging! Take a look at some amazing examples below. We are incredibly proud of the wonderful pieces of writing produced so far. The children have shown great creativity and focus and it’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow. We can’t wait to discover Danny’s dad’s big secret in our reading lessons next week and start more writing about this! Comments are closed.
