Year 4 are smashing it in terms of attendance this year. We have won the attendance award a staggering 9 times which results in us having 2 and a quarter hours of free time. Our class are not stopping there though and want to receive 22 stars which would give us an entire day of free time. The challenge has been set and I know we can do it!
This half term, we have been learning about the digestive system. We have learnt about the types of teeth and spoken about dental hygiene. We have also looked at food chains including the following vocabulary: producers, predators and prey. We have looked at different organs including: large intensities, small intestines and liver.
Congratulations to the children below that have all received WOWs this half term. Some have been for work they have produced in the classroom and some have been for representing the school so well as part of the choir! Well done everybody!
Today, Year 4 wrote up their masterpieces for their setting descriptions. All half term, we have been looking at the novel, "The Fireworkmaker's Daughter" and we have completed work around that including character and setting descriptions. We wrote up our final pieces today and they were amazing. The children were able to use expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials with a comma and a range of sentences including simple, compound and complex. Well done to all of the children for all of their work this half term. Next half term, we will be learning about a new novel which is always a favourite. I am not going to say what the book is called but I will give a clue. The main characters are called Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver!
This half term, the children have thoroughly enjoyed their reading experiences, particularly focusing on The Firework Maker's Daughter and Running On The Roof Of The World. Additionally, they explored an extract titled Firework Night.
Through these texts, the students engaged in comparative and contrastive analyses, which enabled them to identify thematic and narrative connections across the stories. A significant emphasis was placed on making predictions in Running On The Roof Of The World. The insights gained from The Firework Maker's Daughter proved instrumental in informing their predictive reasoning, allowing them to draw parallels and anticipate potential outcomes. The inclusion of soldiers within the narratives captivated the students’ attention, serving as a focal point of intrigue and discussion. The children expressed a profound sense of surprise at various plot developments, which enriched their engagement and prompted thoughtful reflections on the stories' complexities. This reading initiative has not only enhanced their analytical skills but also fostered a deeper appreciation for literature. |
