Today, as part of our Geography Topic on Europe, we have looked at finding the capital cities of some of the main countries within Europe. We knew some already but for the ones that we did not know, we used an atlas to locate and find them. We discussed the differences between continents, countries and cities. Today, we have been looking at square numbers in Maths. We have represented them using counters and translucent tiles. 22 children proffered the tiles and 1 child preferred the counters to represent them. We looked at how the arrays for square numbers create square arrays. This was a great way to learn about our square numbers but also to understand the reasoning behind it.
Yesterday, we went up to Darton College and we took an unprecedented 54 children to a basketball tournament. With it being so close, we did not have to worry about travel costs and we could take a steady walk up. It was AMAZING to see so many children taking part in some inter-school competition and I was proud of everybody for taking part! Thank you to all members of staff as always for all of your hard work! This half term, our novel is Treasure Island. This is also our driver for our writing. We have already read the first 6 chapters and have looked specifically at vocabulary that has been used which is unfamiliar. All of our lessons have a quick recap on the previous day's new vocabulary and the children have done exceptionally well at retaining this knowledge. In writing, we have also started completing diary entries from the perspective of Jim Hawkins. As the children know, and enjoy, the story so much, they are flying with the modelled diaries. Over the next week, they will complete an independent piece from the perspective of Long John Silver.
