For our DT project, we are looking at freestanding structures with a focus on photo frames. During previous lessons, we have looked at how we can strengthen paper and make stands in different ways in order for it to stand without support. Last week, the children made prototypes before they plan their final frame. Have a look below to see our prototypes.

Today, the children used the iMotion app on iPads to create their own stop frame animations. To do this, the children used iPads, whiteboards and stands to keep them still. Then, they drew a picture, captured the frame and then, changed the image slightly. They kept doing this until they had made a full animation. Have a look at the children creating their animations and some of the final pieces of work.
Last week, the children dressed up to help raise money for Children in Need. Have a look below to see the children's outfits. This half term in computing, we have been looking at computer networks and what makes them work. We first looked at a network being full of connections and then we discussed how these connections work. We first discussed that for a network to work there needs to be a switch which directly sends messages to other computers connected to the network. We then looked at how a server, Wi-Fi and other wireless devices such as iPads, laptops and phones play a role in the network. Afterwards, we went into the hall where the children were all given a job within the network and they had to connect themselves to the right part for the network to work correctly. Have a look below to see the children in action. Last week, Copy Cat came into school and threw Y1, 2 and 3 a huge Halloween celebration! All the children dressed up in their scariest costumes, played various games, had snacks and danced to music. Have a look below at everyone having a great time! On Friday, we were very lucky to go on a school trip to Creswell Crags for our history topic The Stone Age. Throughout the day, we did a variety of activities including looking at different animal bones that had been found at the crags, learning about how people survived in the Stone Age / Ice Age and we even got an opportunity to go inside a real cave! The children really enjoyed the visit and we all had a lovely day. Have a look below to see what we got up to. During the last four weeks, we have started to learn some French greetings. The things we have looked are:
This week for our rock science topic, we have been looking at how metamorphic rocks are formed. We first discussed that metamorphic rocks were once sedimentary or igneous rock that has been heated and compressed over thousands of years. To help understand the process of metamorphism, we squeezed different coloured starbursts together to represent the sediment layers in a sedimentary rock. We then heated the mixture for 10 seconds in the microwave to make the sweets soften but not melt. We then used a rolling pin to compress the 'rock' so it could morph into a new rock. Once this was cooled, you could feel the mixture become more dense which is what would happen to the metamorphic rock. Have a look below at us trying to replicate the process of metamorphism. In writing, we have been looking at writing instructions. For this, we had made Stone Age stewed fruit beforehand so we all knew how to make it. This recipe links with our current history topic The Stone Age because people that lived during the the Stone Age were hunter gatherers so all the ingredients in the recipe would have been ingredients that they would have gathered themselves. The children really enjoyed making this recipe and they thought it was delicious. Have a look below to see how they got on. |
