Our Maths unit at the moment has a focus on multiplication. The children have been learning all about grouping and repeated addition and using skip-counting to solve problems in different contexts. We used this opportunity to develop their understanding of money and how multiplication relates to having a number of the same coin type. The children really enjoyed working together, using 2, 5 and 10 pence pieces and writing multiplication calculations to find out how much money they had picked up. Year 2 have been working on a new art unit for the last few weeks. This is a printing unit, based on the work of Irish artist, Orla Kiely. Orla Kiely finds inspiration for her prints in nature and the children in Year 2 have been doing the same. Today, we experimented with making our own block prints. We think they are very effective and hope that you do too! |
