Continuing our work with clay we introduced tools. Today we learnt how to use clay knifes. 
Before getting any equipment out we had to go over the rules.  We all agreed on a set of rules to keep us and others safe. We keep our knife in our hand or on the table, we don't hold our knife up in the air, we don't wave our knife around and we don't walk around the room holding our knife. 
We experimented with our clay knife and used it to make different effects and patterns on the clay. We cut off pieces, drew lines, and cut out shapes. 
Cutting out shapes was very tricky and took a lot of practice! 

Our art unit this half term will be about 3D modeling. 
Today we learnt that 3D stands for 3 dimensional. 3D means that the object is not flat. We will be making our own 3D Christmas decorations from clay. 
Today we got the clay out for the first time, we experimented with different  ways of molding and moving the clay using our hands. We squished, pinched, rolled and pull the clay in different ways.
