We had a fantastic time during our visit to Cannon Hall Farm! We started the day with a guided tour led by Andy, who shared lots of interesting facts about the animals on the farm. One amazing fact we learned was that the world record for the most piglets born to one pig at the same time is 55! Andy also introduced us to the baby animals currently at the farm and told us how old they were. We were very lucky to see some baby goats (kids) that had only been born the day before. To make the experience even more exciting, Andy gave us some food so we could feed the animals ourselves. After our tour, we hurried over to the tractor ride and arrived just in time to hop on! The tractor took us around a field that was home to a family of Highland cows and Gary the donkey, who was spending some time away from the other donkeys because of his bad behaviour! We did our best to call Gary over, but he decided to stay where he was and didn’t come to see us. After a long-awaited lunch, we continued exploring the rest of the farm and visited all the animals we hadn’t yet seen. We went into the reptile and mammal house and even found time to watch an exciting ferret race. We also stopped to see the meerkats being fed, which was great fun to watch! Then came the moment we had all been waiting for… some time to play on the park! The children had a wonderful time climbing, sliding and exploring! After such a busy day, we treated ourselves to a little lie down on the grass before a much quieter coach ride back to school!
Well done, Year 1 you represented our school fantastically on our trip with your respectful behaviour. For world book day this year we took inspiration from the incredible author Julia Donaldson. Each class chose a different book of hers to focus on, in year 1 we looked at The Gruffalo. We started our day by reading the story, something which we all loved. We learnt a little about Julia Donaldson and the Illustrator of her books Axel Scheffler and had a look at some of the other books they have worked together on, we were surprise to see how many we recognised! We then got to work, today we were authors and illustrators. We started by collecting some vocabulary that we wanted to use before sitting down to write our own description of the Gruffalo. We then very carefully illustrated our writing. Everyone worked incredibly hard and carefully created their piece. In the afternoon we finished off our books by designing our own front covers, we learnt that front covers need to include the book title and the names of who had made the book.
After this we all got a bit creative and made a collage of the Gruffalo on a paper plate. We then finished off our day with a visit from year 5 who were kind enough to come and read everyone a book of their choice! Today we took part in World Book day and everyone came in either a costume or some comfy clothes to celebrate. Look how amazing we all looked! |
