A shout out to these children who have used lots of detail in their buildings. We love the way all these buildings show children have worked with care, patience and imagination. We have been reading 'Peepo' - a story set in the past. We have been learning through this story and some non-fiction books how some things were different in the past. This linked to our story-time books 'Old Bear' and 'The Sea Saw.' On Wednesday we brought our own teddies into school and spoke about how old they were. One teddy belonged to someone's mummy when she was a little girl so he was old and looked well-loved! We also enjoyed playing with the old wooden toys.
In Kidnetics this week, the children warmed up using their core strength which took a lot of concentration and grit. The games focused on using space well by not bumping into anyone and really moving carefully in different ways.
The children were all engaged in different activities this morning before the excitement of Christmas dinner. It was lovely to see some children practising their literacy skills independently and even a small group playing teachers!
It's the craft fayre next week so we have been busy making wreaths to sell for £2 each. These will surely add some joy to your homes!
We have also been making our snowflake headbands for the Christmas performance. This week our focus story is about a hen and a fox, 'Rosie's Walk' - the fox keeps trying to pounce on Rosie the hen. We've also read other stories with hen and fox characters and it seems to us the fox is always sly! So, in construction and small world we've been making traps for the fox and houses for the hen. We've also made our school safe by putting up WANTED posters of the fox!
This morning we made the most of the overnight snow and got our waterproofs, wellies, hats and gloves on and went out to explore the snow.
We've been learning about the word 'squelchy' and what better way to understand than feel it so we made jelly in class then tipped it out and splattered it and squashed our fingers in it. It definitely fely squelchy and these are some of the other words we used too; slimy, cold, like lava, like jam, soft, lovely, jammy, fruity, like blood. Everyone had a go and loved it!
In Bear Cubs, we have been learning about Diwali - the Hindu festival of light. The Hindus have special candle holders called Divas. We have used clay to mould some ourselves. It was hard work for little fingers but with lots of pressing and added pressure we made them and we are delighted with the finished results!
