Bear baking!

21/11/2022

This week for baking we were able to stick to our story theme 'We're going on a bear hunt' and also support children in need day at the same time!
We made some delicious Pudsey bear biscuits. There was a lot of mixing involved and rolling out the dough which was pretty hard work, but they turned out fantastic!

We're getting creative!

We have been reading 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' and this week we have been using our story to inspire our creativity.
We have learnt to use a different type of paint this week, power paints. They are tricky to work with as we only get one brush each and have to remember to clean it in the water pot between colours. We have also learnt how to use a mixing pallet and how to wash it up when we're finished.
We learnt how to use the colours we had, blue. red and yellow to make brown. To make brown you had to mix all 3 colours together! We used the brown paint to colour in some lovely bear pictures.
We have also been trying to make different types of bears at the creative table. First decided which bear we wanted to make by picking a reference picture, next we used a pencil to draw the outline of our bear, then we added different coloured fabrics for the fur and last we added some googly eyes. They look fantastic!

We've been on a bear hunt!

Today when we got to school a bear had left us a letter! It was from the big brown bear in 'We're going on a Bear Hunt'. It turns out that he was never trying to hurt the family in the story but he in fact just wanted to play with them, which is why he looked so sad at the end.
To show us just how friendly he really is he brought all his bear friends to play a lovely game of hide and seek with us.
We have been learning a lot about different types of bears so we were very eager to get going. We found a brown bear, a black bear, a moon bear, a polar bear and a panda.

We have all been very excited to hear that it is bonfire night soon. we're really looking forward all the beautiful fireworks. We decided to use to brightly coloured paint and black paper to paint our own fireworks. But first we had to watch a video for some inspiration.
We loved the fireworks that much we also learnt a new song about them, called 5 Little Fireworks.
