Our lights shine brightly

24/10/2024

In Bear Cubs, we have been learning about Diwali - the Hindu festival of light. The Hindus have special candle holders called Divas. We have used clay to mould some ourselves. It was hard work for little fingers but with lots of pressing and added pressure we made them and we are delighted with the finished results!

Beware of these scary characters!!!!

Fruit tasting

10/10/2024

We have been learning that fruit is healthy for us so today we tried some different fruits. It was very exciting to guess whether the seeds inside were small or large; a stone. We loved how the avocado stone fell straight out of the ripe fruit. There has been some funny faces pulled whilst we've been trying - some we've liked more than others but we have laughed and enjoyed talking about the fruits using vocabulary such as, juicy, sweet, creamy, sour, tangy.

Poetry time

10/10/2024

We learn a new poem every week in Bear Cubs. Here some children have chosen to recite the poems independently.

Teamwork

8/10/2024

This group of four children have worked collaboratively this morning in the construction area. I love how they kept adding more detail  - all with thought and purpose, and all accepting each other's ideas. Can you see the forest????

Fine Motor Skills

8/10/2024

We are practising fine motor skills; this is essential for  children to develop the hand strength and coordination needed for everyday tasks like holding a pencil, cutting with scissors, and buttoning clothes. Strengthening these skills lays a strong foundation for writing, drawing, and other  activities.

African sunsets

2/10/2024

We have a new focus story! It's Handa's Surprise; a story set in Africa. We have been looking at the village where the main character lives and comparing it to Kexborough - they are very different from one another. We have been learning to create African sunset pictures by rolling and rubbing crayons across the paper instead of using in a pincer grip. We added silhouettes.
We have also been looking at some familiar places to us in Kexborough, such as the chemist, the shop, the school, the fish and chip shop etc. We talked about these places and drew maps.
